Spooky Spell Book !!

Hey there gorgeous people, it's lovely to be back with you today.

Today I'm posting on the 'A Vintage Journey' blog as guest designer for this months theme 'Something Spooky'

I decided It was an ideal opportunity to use up some hoarded goodies and use up an old 2014 diary turning it into an art journal....

So this is what I came up with, I used Prima's Art Basics Heavy Body Gel Medium to glue down lots of fabric and bits and pieces into my cover and then covered it all with yummy DecoArt paints and metallic lustres....

Stop by at the 'A Vintage Journey' blog  (link at the start of post) for a full photo tutorial

DecoArt 'Under the Sea' challenge

Hey there beautiful people and welcome to another DecoArt Challenge......

This time we have a fabulous under the sea theme !!

Come and join in the fun and enter the challenge to be in with a chance of winning a $100 giftcard to spend on the fabulous DecoArt products from the online store.

Click HERE to enter and upload your piece before the 12th August and the winner will be announced on the 19th August......Come on give it a go !!!!

I was inspired by the swirling under the sea plants and knew that that was the route i wanted to approach for my piece........

I used a 7x5 Canvas board for my substrate and covered with gesso leaving to dry and chose the following media line colours for my background....

Prussian Blue Hue
Cobalt Teal Hue
Cerulean Blue
Cobalt Turquoise Hue
Titanium White

Mixing the colours up on my canvas meant that i could create lots of different shades of blue for my background

Step 1
Using my fingers i started with the lightest colours towards the centre of my canvas board building up the layers and darkening the colours as i moved to the outside (i like to use my fingers to do this stem but it can be equally acheived with a paint brush id you prefer!!) I continued to build up the layers until i was happy with the result.

Step 2
Once the background was dry i heated up my hot glue gun and layed down the basic shapes of some under the sea plants (you could sketch this with a pencil first if you are worried about freehand!!)
I didnt worry if the hot glue wasnt completely smooth as it came out of the gun and has little lumps and bumps, i think this adds to the effect. I then added some little bubbles with the glue around the outside of my design.

Step 3
Using the following Media Line colours......

Green Gold
Phthalo Green Yellow

I then started to colour in my leaves using a touch of titanium white to highlight and using the darker phthalo green to create shadows.

I continued to build up these colours until i was happy with the result

Step 4
Next using my very favourite Metaillic Lustres in the gorgeous Gold Rush i began rubbed this over the top of my hot glue outlines. i just added some of the metallic lustre to my finger and started rubbing over the top of the lines until the desired opaqueness was acheived.

Step 5
Using the titanium white and the prussian blue hue paints i added a small amount of these to my fingers and dotted them around my canvas board

Step 6
Back to my fabulous Mettalic Lustres in Majestic Purple i rubbed this all around the outside of my canvas board with my finger and also added some to the leaves for cohesion.

Step 7
My final step was to add a pre cut chipboard quote to my piece and this was adhered with Matte Gel

I love my final piece and will definately be trying this technique again in the future, maybe ill create a whole garden next...mmmmm.....the possibilities are endless !!

Thanks for stopping by and i hope to see you all again soon

'Colour' Art Journal Page Tutorial

Good morning lovelies, Im here today with a little tutorial on my newest page in my Square Dylusions Journal for the 'A Sprinkle of Imagination' design team....

I'm really starting to love these 8x8 inch pages, having always worked in the Large Dylusions Journal it took a bit of getting used to this format.

I started by using Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylics in lime, lemon, turquoise and lapis and also Golden Fluid Acrylic Paint in teal, I put the colours on with my fingers and just spread them around the page until I was happy...

Next I went in with a Dina Wakley Stencil and some texture paste, I chose this stencil as it reminded me of the colour wheel, I heat dried the texture paste and once dry I used Dina's ruby and umber paints and again spread them on randomly with my fingers, I also added some red dots with Goldens Fluid Acrylic Red paint and again just using my fingers to do this, I also added some black lines with the side of an old credit card...

Next I painted in some of the colour wheel segments with Dina's magenta paint and also with my fingers added some of this randomly to my page to tie in the colour, I used one of Dina's stamps from the Woodcuts set with a black archival ink pad and added to various places on my page.
I used another of Dina's stencils and some white paint to add some further detail to my page, and then scribbled around those shapes with a pencil. I then took some black paint and went around the outside of the colour wheels and inbetween them to make them stand out from the page....

Next I used the Dylusions bubble stencil and some texture paste and stencilled randomly onto my page leaving to dry (you could use a heat gun for this) and added some white splatters to the whole page, earlier in the day I had been sorting out all my paints and had pulled some dry paint out of some of the lids (you know where it all gets clogged up around the top of the tubes or bottles) I knew some of these would be perfect for this page so I used some of Prima's 3D Matt gel to glue these to my page. Once everything was dry I then went over the top of everything with gold paint, I added a touch of paint to my finger and rubbed it over all the raised areas and added some randomly to my page...

Nearly finished... I stamped the word 'Colour' with the Tim Holtz alphabet stamp set and used a black archival pen to scribble circles around my colour wheels and paint splats, I also randomly scribbled around some of the texture paste bubbles....

The final touch was to add some white gel pen to the letters to give them a little bit of interest...

Thank you for stopping by today I hope you are feeling inspired and you give it a try !!
